ACCIONA Cultura Promoting Sustainable Development in Riyadh through Cultural Dialogue

ACCIONA Cultura, a leading cultural production company, organized the second panel discussion of its lecture series aimed at promoting culture through technological innovation and creativity. Held at the regional office of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Riyadh, the event brought together a number of leading figures from the world of art, government and business to showcase the decisive role that culture plays in promoting sustainable development in the world.

The conference focused on the relationship between cities and culture, and in particular on how museums have evolved over the past three decades to attract new audiences and remain relevant to a young, highly connected and highly digitalized generation.

The conference in Riyadh in May was preceded by a series of panel discussions entitled “Sustainability Matters: A Social Dialogue”, a series of panel discussions that explored the local community’s understanding of the concept of culture as a powerful tool for sustainable social development, promoting diversity, inclusiveness, and creativity while preserving cultural heritage.

Daniel Orti, Director of ACCIONA Cultura Middle East, participated as a keynote speaker, stating that “museums are well-positioned to address and enhance sustainable development issues because they can work with communities to raise public awareness, support research, and promote well-being. The role of museums in the public discourse on sustainability has never been more important.

Cristina Hernández Prieto, director of events at ACCIONA Cultura, was also a keynote speaker at the event, and Prieto emphasized the importance of events as a tool for cultural promotion. By bringing together leading figures from a wide range of industries, such events can in themselves inspire innovation and collaboration, while raising the profile of sustainability and culture in the public consciousness,” she said.

All of ACCIONA Cultura’s events, including the Riyadh event, are carbon neutral. As part of a renewable energy company, all CO2 emissions are offset through Acciona’s Clean Energy Program. In addition, ACCIONA Cultura has recently launched a sustainable events guide aimed at helping all those involved in its events to achieve zero carbon emissions.

ACCIONA Cultura has a significant presence in the museum, exhibition and events business in the Middle East. The company has been involved in a number of high-profile projects in the region, including the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, the Qatar National Museums, Expo 2020 Dubai and the Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai.
